age-turners

When I first started to actively read the Bible and pursue the Lord, I had one central question in mind: What does the Lord want from me? Throughout my Christian life, I had always assumed God had some plan for the course of my life, but I had never really considered His eternal purpose before. Ephesians 3:11 tells us that God does in fact have a specific goal.

According to the eternal purpose which He made in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Ephesians 3:11)

So, what is God’s purpose and how does He accomplish it? A simple answer to this question is that God desires to build His church and He does this through people who see what He wants to do on the earth and actively respond to it. Throughout time, certain people have cooperated with God and His eternal plan to “turn the age.” In the Old Testament, men like Noah, Moses, Samuel and Daniel were all willing to be used by God for the advancement of His move. In the New Testament, we see this same plan being carried out by John the Baptist, Peter and Paul. Today, the Lord is depending on His believers to make a home for Him.

That Christ may make His home in your hearts through faith. (Ephesians 3:17)

What is an age?

From eternity past to eternity future, there are different periods of time in which God wants to accomplish something. Even though the outward manifestation of what He wants to do is different in each age, His inward desire has always been the same. The four ages outlined in the Bible are the period of time before God gave Moses the law, the period of time during the law, the period of grace, which we are currently in, and the kingdom age, which is to come. Throughout these ages, the goal has always been to make a resting place for Him.

Thus says Jehovah, Heaven is my throne, and the earth the footstool for My feet. Where then is the house that you will build for Me, and where is the place of  My rest? (Isaiah 66:1)

What is an age-turner?

When God wants to accomplish something, He uses man to do it. However, we are unable to be useful to God if we do things apart from Him and according to our own desires instead of His. According to this principle, it is clear that God desires to use people as His instruments so that they will cooperate fully with Him to achieve His goal. Thus, to be used by the Lord today and bring in the kingdom age, we should spend time reading the Bible to know Him and His desires in a more personal way so that we can see what He wants to do and consecrate ourselves for this eternal purpose.

Your people will offer themselves willingly in the day of Your warfare, in the splendor of their consecration. Your young men will be to You like the dew from the womb of the dawn. (Psalms 110:3)
